Back Kim, MD
Chief Medical Officer & Faculty Physician
Back Kim is the Chief Medical Officer of Heart Vein NYC (HVNYC) and opened its doors in 2010. Including his time spent with HVNYC, Dr. Kim is the Director of Cardiovascular Patient Outreach and Research program at Lenox Hill Hospital and the Clinical Instructor in Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. His medical training can be credited to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Brown University, Case Western Reserve University Hospital, John Hopkins University, and the Seoul National University, School of Medicine. Dr. Kim has his board certification in Cardiology, Nuclear Cardiology, and Cardiovascular Disease as well as diplomate of Internal Medicine and Cardiology. Dr. Kim is fluent in Korean, English and Spanish.
Dr. Kim’s mission here at HVNYC is to provide quality patient treatment and continuity of care, collectively, with his team of physicians, mid levels, and clinical staff. With locations serving various boroughs, his ultimate goal is to make pertinent health care accessible to patients throughout the greater New York City area.
Esad Vucic, MD, CBNC
Esad Vucic, MD, CBNC is a cardiologist who joined Heart Vein NYC (HVNYC) in January 2018. Before working with HVNYC, Dr Vucic worked in medical groups in Connecticut and New York and is affiliated with New York University. He received his medical degree from Eberhard Karls University Faculty of Medicine and underwent clinical medical training at New York University School of Medicine, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, and SUNY Downstate. His board certifications include internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, cardiac electrophysiology, echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, and cardiac computed tomography. Dr. Vucic is an expert in heart rhythm disorders, cardiac imaging, atherosclerotic vascular disease, Hypertension, heart failure, and more. He is fluent in English, German, French, Serbian, Croatian, Spanish and Portuguese.
Tai An Choi, MSN, ANP-BC
Adult Nurse Practitioner
Tae An Choi, ANP-BC joined Heart Vein NYC (HVNYC) in May, 2013. Prior to joining HVNYC, he worked in the internal medicine unit at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York for 4 years (2008~2012). He currently works at all four of our facilities practicing cardiovascular care in collaboration with our physicians. He is one of providers in our office-based Endovenous Laser Ablation (ELA) procedure. He is actively participating in our clinical research projects and our HVNYC blog of case studies. He is also one of main authors who published an article “Iliac Vein Compression Syndrome” in Consultant medical journal in December 2017. He is fluent in English and Korean and proficient in Spanish.
Rishona Johnson, MPAS, PA-C
Certified Physician Assistant
Rishona Johnson, MSc. PA-C joined Heart Vein NYC (HVNYC) in February, 2016. Throughout her academic career, Rishona has always had an interest in cardiovascular medicine. She currently works primarily in the Manhattan and Flushing locations in conjunction with a team of well qualified physicians. Her primary goal is to continue to provide effective patient care through her clinical knowledge throughout the NYC area.

Rachel Nahrwold, AGNP-BC
Rachel Nahrwold, AGNP-BC is a new addition to Heart Vein NYC (HVNYC) as of April, 2018. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing at Columbia University. She is an ANCC board certified adult-gerontology nurse practitioner. Prior to joining HVNYC, she worked for Wellness Corporate Solutions, providing quality healthcare at various locations around NYC. She predominantly works at our Manhattan, Flushing, and Fordham locations, collaborating with a well-qualified multidisciplinary team of providers. With a keen interest in pursuing Cardiology as a subspecialty, she focused her education and clinical experience on this goal. She was fortunate to train with expert cardiologists around the city while earning her degrees. She is a member of the Nurse Practitioner Association of New York and regularly volunteers with the organization. She hopes to contribute to our mission of providing state-of-the-art cardiac and vascular care to our patients.
