Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a 2-minute test allows to see the electrical activity of the heart. Small sticky patches are placed on the surface of the skin. The EKG allow your provider to determine the heart rate, heart rhythm and can detect active or previous heart damage.
Common indications for Electrocardiogram (EKG):
- Chest pain, difficult exercise, shortness of breath, dizziness or palpitation
- Fainted (“Syncope”)
- Known Heart Disease
- If your doctor suspects you have heart disease
How to prepare for an EKG:
No special preparation is needed for an Electrocardiogram.
